Bologna ranked twelfth in the 2003–04 Serie A championship with 39 points. With a regular path, they collected 20 points in the first round and 19 in the return round. In the Italian Cup, having passed the second round at the expense of Brindisi (they lost 3-2 in Puglia and won 3-0 at home), in the round of 16 they were eliminated by Udinese , by which they were defeated in both the first leg (1-0 at home) and in the return leg (3-0 against Friuli ). With 9 goals Claudio Bellucci was the best scorer of the season, 2 in the Italian Cup and 7 in the championship.
